Production & corporate responsibility

This is where Phil Petter's knitwear is manufactured.

All Phil Petter knitted garments are produced entirely in Austria – more precisely in Dornbirn, in the state of Vorarlberg. There we operate our own knitting factory, where all steps take place under one roof: from design, through knitting, cutting and sewing, to final inspection.
This in-house production is a central element of our brand philosophy. It enables us not only to maintain the highest quality standards, but also to ensure fair working conditions, regional value creation, and maximum transparency.
Unlike many fashion brands that outsource their production, we have consciously chosen the more elaborate path: local instead of global, sustainable instead of cheap. Manufacturing in our own factory allows us to use materials efficiently, avoid unnecessary transport, and conserve resources. At the same time, we are able to respond flexibly and precisely to design ideas and quality requirements.
For Phil Petter, the "Made in Austria" label is therefore not just a marketing promise, but an expression of lived responsibility –
towards our employees, our customers and the environment.

That's what "Made in Austria" means at Phil Petter.

“Made in Austria” is far more than just a label of origin for Phil Petter – it’s part of our identity. Every garment you buy from our retail partners and in our online shop was made in our
Designed and manufactured in our own knitting factory in Dornbirn, Austria. This means: no outsourcing, no compromises. We control and are responsible for the entire process – from the yarn to the finished garment.
“Made in Austria” also stands for the preservation of regional craftsmanship, precise processing and innovation in textile technology.
In a globalized industry where many brands rely on mass production and low-wage countries, Phil Petter consciously takes a different path: transparent, consistent, and responsible. For our customers, this means they receive a garment that has been made with care and under ethically sound conditions – and that will bring joy for many years to come.

Slow Fashion & Sustainability

Materials used for the clothing

Phil Petter uses only materials that meet the highest quality standards and are also sustainable. Key fibers include extra-fine merino wool, certified organic cotton, viscose, linen, and recycled performance yarns. Each fiber is selected with comfort, durability, and environmental compatibility in mind.
Our largely mulesing-free merino wool is exceptionally soft, temperature-regulating, and odor-neutral. It's ideal for knitwear such as sweaters and cardigans and comes from mulesing-free sheep farming. The organic cotton is free of harmful chemicals, skin-friendly, and durable – perfect for summer knitwear.
Lyocell is a wood-based cellulose fiber that impresses with its silky-smooth feel, breathability, and low environmental impact during production. Linen brings summery lightness and a natural texture, while recycled high-tech yarns – for example, with stretch or cool-touch properties – are used for sporty or functional designs.
This variety of materials allows us to develop modern menswear that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also comfortable to wear and produced in an ecologically responsible manner.

Sustainable clothing by Phil Petter

Our materials come from responsible sources: certified organic cotton, mulesing-free merino wool whenever possible, viscose and recycled yarns form the basis of our collections.
Furthermore, we focus on durability. Our products are designed to remain wearable for many years – in both function and style. Instead of constantly changing collections, we work on the continuous development of proven designs. Those who buy from Phil Petter consciously choose to reject fast fashion and opt for a sustainable lifestyle with a sense of style.

The meaning of “slow fashion” for Phil Petter

For Phil Petter, "slow fashion" is not just a buzzword, but a lived reality. We understand it to mean a slower, more conscious form of fashion production – in contrast to fast fashion, which is all about mass production, speed, and short life cycles.
At Phil Petter, we take our time: for developing new cuts, for selecting the best materials, and for fair, local production in Austria. Our collections aren't constantly being updated, but rather build upon one another. Many pieces remain in our range for years because they have proven their worth – in fit, style, and function.
For us, slow fashion also means quality over quantity. Instead of ten cheap T-shirts, we offer one that retains its shape, color, and appeal for years. That's more sustainable – both ecologically and economically. Our customers appreciate exactly that: fashion that doesn't need to be replaced after three washes, but becomes a permanent part of their wardrobe.

Seasonal collections by Phil Petter

Phil Petter presents two seasonal collections each year: one for spring and summer, and one for autumn and winter. These collections are inspired by the time of year, but always remain true to the brand's philosophy: clean lines, high-quality materials, and wearable colors that don't go out of style after just one season.
Our summer collection often features lightweight materials like linen, lyocell, or fine cotton blends – ideal for warm days. In winter, we focus more on extra-fine merino wool, but also cashmere, alpaca, or functional blends with warming properties. Our focus is never on short-term trends, but rather on the thoughtful development of our core range.
This creates recognizability, combinability, and reliability. Anyone who knows a favorite piece from last season can trust that they will also find suitable additions in the new collection.

This is what happens to leftover materials and yarns in Phil Petter's production.

At Phil Petter, responsible use of materials is more than just a promise – it's a lived reality. Thanks to our own factory in Dornbirn, we oversee every step and can work precisely, efficiently, and with minimal resource consumption. Our knitwear is designed to be knitted directly into the desired shape – without any cutting and with minimal waste. Seamless knitting also helps to avoid waste from the very beginning.
Where smaller quantities of fabric or yarn do accumulate, we use them selectively: for prototypes, sample pieces, repairs, or internal testing – for example, in the development of new machines or knitting techniques. New designs are also deliberately created from leftovers.
Materials that we can no longer use ourselves are donated to textile schools or social institutions such as workshops for people with disabilities. In this way, every centimeter of fabric remains part of a sustainable cycle – and our responsibility doesn't end with the last stitch.

This is what the production process looks like at Phil Petter.

The production process at Phil Petter is entirely in-house – a unique selling point that sets us apart from many other fashion brands. All garments are designed and manufactured in our own knitting factory in Dornbirn (Vorarlberg). This means that every step – from design and knitting to cutting, garment making, and final inspection – takes place under one roof.
This allows us to maintain full control over quality and sustainability, and also to react flexibly to developments. We source our yarns, fabrics, and accessories almost exclusively from partners in Europe, with at least 90% coming from traditional manufacturers in Italy. The knitted garments are then produced in our own factory using state-of-the-art machinery, combined with traditional handcrafted finishing.
This vertical manufacturing model allows us to work particularly efficiently and conserve resources. At the same time, we ensure fair working conditions, short supply chains, and transparent processes. For our customers, this means that every item they buy from Phil Petter comes from a traceable, responsible production chain – Made in Austria, with a personal touch and a strong sense of values.

This is where the materials Phil Petter uses come from.

The high-quality materials we use for our Phil Petter collections come exclusively from Europe. We source our yarns, fabrics, and accessories primarily from long-standing partners in Italy – from regions with deeply rooted textile expertise and the highest environmental and social standards. This close, collaborative partnership guarantees not only consistently high quality but also a transparent and traceable supply chain.
We pay particular attention to certified sustainability:
Our cotton comes from controlled organic cultivation (GOTS-certified), and our merino wool, whenever possible, from mulesing-free farms. Our performance materials, such as LYOCELL, a natural and resource-conserving cellulose fiber, and recycled yarns, also meet modern eco-standards. The selection of materials is based on strict criteria: they must be durable, comfortable to wear, and environmentally friendly.
By consistently choosing European suppliers, we avoid long transport routes and promote a regional, sustainable value chain. At Phil Petter, we combine traditional textile craftsmanship with contemporary materials – for responsibly produced menswear that meets the highest standards of comfort, function, and aesthetics.
