Timeline

The beginning

As a teenager, Kurt Petter enjoyed ski racing. The sports clothing of his ski club was – as was common at the time – black or dark blue.
He'd always been a fashion fanatic, so in the championship race he wore a self-designed and knitted, shocking yellow sweater with green cuffs and a red collar. Although he finished far behind in the first heat and was eliminated in the second, he certainly attracted attention.
Suddenly everyone wanted his sweater, and the idea matured to design and launch his own collection.

1973 – Founding of the company

In 1973, the hobby became a profession. Kurt Petter and his wife Corinna founded the "Miss and Mister Sweater Production" company.
The production of knitwear starts in
the parents' garage.

1982 – Acquisition of the laundry

The laundry facility in the South Tyrolean settlement in Dornbirn was acquired, and production and garment manufacturing were relocated there. Over the years, the building was further expanded and remains the company headquarters and location for production and all other areas of the business to this day.

1984 – Expansion in Europe

The first contracts with agents are being signed to expand distribution across Europe. High standards are being set for both agents and trading partners.
Then as now, the partnership with selected fashion retailers is the core of the advice and sale of Phil Petter products.

1992 – Launch of the Phil Petter brand

The internationalization of distribution also necessitates the internationalization of the brand. The label is named after the owner's son, Philipp Petter.

2007 – Overseas Expansion

This year, the label will be sold in Canada for the first time. Japan will follow, and in 2016 the USA will be added as new markets.

2021 – Phil Petter goes digital

Phil Petter is also keeping up with the times and launching its online presence. The focus is on providing information about the company and its products. A large part of the product range can also be ordered online, although partnerships with brick-and-mortar retailers remain a key priority.

2023 – Securing the Future

After 50 years in the company, the Petter family is handing over its majority stake to the regional investors of Alps Business Partner.
The transfer of management and advisory board to experts with many years of industry experience ensures the continued development of a genuine Austrian manufacturer and brand for the future.
